Run Disney

For years Allie has seen her friends post photos on facebook of the medals they receive doing a run Disney event and been secretly jealous (she wants Disney Bling too). Our trip just so happened to coincide with the Food and Wine Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World and the Avengers Marathon Weekend at Disneyland. These races take place on the outskirts of the park and also travel into the parks themselves. During the races they have photo opportunities with rare characters but the race is timed and you need to keep a pace of 13 minutes a mile.

Now those of you that know Allie know she isn't overly fit but when Disney bling is involved what's a girl who needs some bling and has missed out for all these years to do. She signed up for both the 5k and 10k at Walt Disney World and the 5k and 10k the following weekend at Disneyland.

The Food and Wine races were themed for Thanksgiving/Christmas and Allie dressed up for the occassion. The first race was the 5k, Allie thought she would just walk fast but then her impatience drive kicked in from standing around in the cold for over an hour waiting to be able to start that when it did she was off. She did a combination of speed walking and jogging. She ended up doing the same the next morning when it came to the 10k.

The following weekend was Disneylands turn. The theming was set for Marvel's Avengers but Allie decided to rebel and wear her Harley Quinn (from DC Universe) tops so she would not need to purchase more clothes (Hey, that'd take away from the Disney trip funds). The night before the 5k, Allie came down with a cold and purchased a bum-bag (hip pack) to hold her phone and tissues during the race. Although she was feeling sick and constantly having to blow her nose, she was on a mission to beat her 5k time from the weekend prior which she managed to do. The next day at the 10k, she was still sick and on top of that also had a sore hamstring from the day before, but again she was on a mission to beat her 10k time from the week before which she was able to accomplish, although she will be the first to tell you she was dying!
