Travel Days

When Allie met Dave, Allie already had a vacation planned to USA in 2017. We were able to change a few things around and Dave was able to join Allie on this amazing experience. Allie enjoyed being able to share her love of Disney with Dave and this trip made him a fan of the theme parks.

Due to work and life, we are behind on our blog posts so we will be posting about our days in groups instead of day by day. We were also having an amazing time while in USA and kept pretty busy so we were not the best note takers.

Like with any vacation, you have to travel to get there and these days are boring, uneventful and just the worst.

For our 2017 vacation we flew from Melbourne to San Francisco with a layover in Sydney. Allie has only ever flew Sydney for her 4 previous USA trips. The airplane was filthy and the she was not impressed with the service received. The international flight was mostly empty at the back and Dave abandoned Allie for the middle row he could have all to himself.

For transportation to and from San francisco airport, we used Wingz. This is like an Uber service but specifically for airport transfers. Both drivers we had arriving and departing were nice and friendly.
After a few days in San Francisco, we did the second leg of our journey which was San Francisco to Orlando via. a layover in Dallas. This leg was with American Airlines. Allie was not impressed with their changed boarding and how to guarantee carry-on you need to pay for priority boarding, we did not pay (that's Disney money). Both times we were the last people to board the plane before carry-on had to be checked. We stopped for lunch in Dallas. We can't remember the name of the place but they yelled out celebrity names when your order was ready instead of numbers. They also had a bar for those nervous fliers who require some liquid courage. Dave got a salad and Allie got a burger.

After a couple weeks in Orlando we flew American Airlines  to Los Angeles with a layover in Dallas. Upon arrival in Los Angeles, we got the Disneyland Express bus to our hotel. We did purchase priority boarding with American Airlines for this portion of the trip as we had breakables in our carry-on luggage and did not want to risk these being checked.

We spent a week in Anaheim and then got the Disneyland express bus back to LAX and a direct Qantas flight home to Melbourne.

Overall, Qantas and American Airlines have both gone down hill since Allie's 2015 trip. We are booked to fly with both airlines again in 2018 but this is due to price and scheduling of flights being the most convenient. We do not have layovers in Dallas as some things are worth paying extra for.
